Carpenters Farm is a well known and established grower of high quality soft fruits, asparagus and potatoes and PYO farm. We sell our home grown produce from the farm shop and to other local businesses. Fresh produce is sourced as locally as possible helping to cut food miles , sustain local economy and support our region’s farmers and producers. An extensive range of top quality and convenience lines can be found in store.
We always do our best to meet the changing needs of our customers including sourcing new products, improving our displays and store layout , organising events and tastings, offering promotions and competitions. We are always on hand to help with your shopping needs -be it finding a specific product or carrying your shopping out to your car. Since 1934 Britain’s favourite berry has been grown here at Carpenters Farm. Growing, cultivating and irrigating methods have changed dramatically over the years and even the varieties have been modified to fruit for longer and yield more too. Our strawberries remain well known, near and far, for their exceptional taste and quality. So why not try some for yourself?
They are sold ready picked from the farm shop in 200g, 400g , 800 g or 5lb baskets ( during peak season). Pick your own fruit is on the open fields with strawed rows. Bring the family for a fun and healthy trip out. Why not combine it with a browse around the farm shop and a meal in the café?
Other soft fruit we grow are…Gooseberries – traditional green or the desert pink variety. Tayberries – a large dark, deep red berry which is a cross between a blackberry and a raspberry. Plums – we have a small orchard of greengages and plums including Marjorie Seedlings and Victorias. See our seasonal chart on the PYO page for when the fruit is available.
With approximately 60 years of experience, we know a thing or two about growing fantastics tasting, quality potatoes. The varieties we grow are:
- Maris Bard: A firm, waxy early variety that is good for boiling, frying and baking. Harvested in early summer.
- Estima A white maincrop potato which is a delicious all-rounder.
- Desiree A red maincrop with creamy flesh excellent for mash, roasting and boiling.
- Maris Piper A white maincrop potato – the chip shop favourite! This variety is very well known and is perfect for frying, roasting and chipping.
Maincrop varieties are harvested from late August and available most of the year round.

From the farm shop you can buy our potatoes in 2.5 Kg , 5 Kg , 12.5 Kg and 25 Kg sacks. Bakers are also available loose, in 12.5 or 25 Kg sacks.
Pick Your Own-it’s a seasonal affair! Come and pick your own Strawberries, Gooseberries, Tayberries and Plums at Carpenters Farm! One of the few original and surviving PYOs in Essex Its this easy:
- 1.Check on our seasonal chart, on facebook or by calling the shop to check availability
- 2.Bring your own container ( have it weighed in the shop first ) or pick up one of our baskets. Follow the signs for best picking and have fun finding the biggest, juiciest berries.
3.Return to the farm shop to pay and browse all the other wonderful goodies we have on sale including snacks, cold drinks, ice creams and fresh cream.
